The Harvest Challenge is a wine competition that bases its judging on a group of vineyards (or even vines) from the same region, belonging to a specific appellation, and sharing the same type of soil, weather conditions, grapes and wine making savoir-faire, which contribute to give the specific personality to the wine. Harvest Challenge recognizes wine entries that best exemplify the soil and climate of their respective viticultural areas, and acknowledges its influence on wine quality. More than 1,000 wines were entered in this year’s competition.
"The judges of this prestigious event awarded our 2017 Crimson Creek with the three highest honors a wine can win,” said JW Ray, founder and winemaker at JOLO Winery & Vineyards. “The judges taste wines with other wines of the same appellation. Thus, with cross-regional competition removed, the inherent quality of wines can be seen without the influences that sometimes eclipse even a wine of very high quality. We’ve always believed that our wines can compete with international offerings that cost up three times our retail price and these awards go a long way to confirming our assertions.”
JOLO Winery & Vineyards is located at 219 JOLO Winery Lane in Pilot Mountain. Tasting Lodge hours are Thursday thru Saturday 10:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. To purchase any of these award-winning wines or to learn more, visit the JOLO Wine Shop.
